Program Description
Event Details
HAPPY POETRY MONTH!! EMPL will be hosting Mr. Awuya, a local poet, who will be reading from his first collection of poems, At the Heart of the Tumult.
Guy-Guillaume Awuya is a poet, artist, and resident of the Quad Cities. Originally from Togo, he emigrated to the US in 2017 with his family and became a US Citizen in 2022.
His attachment to his African roots inspires his poetry, engaging and hopeful as the poet captures the world and the events that define our time. Combining classical and free verses, he uses rhythm and imagery to deliver life lessons and seek a shared understanding of our humanity.
Besides his passion for poetry, Mr. Awuya is a calligrapher who uses his poetic artistry and ink writing to create beautiful, personalized picture boards. He will display samples of his artwork and a two-minute video presentation of his work/Bio.
This event will feature light snacks and refreshments. If you are interested in seeing Mr. Awuya's work, it is available in French here!
